The Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) is a critical assessment for Ghana, Nigeria, and Sierra Leone students completing their junior secondary school education; the BECE scores determine their eligibility for senior high schools and various vocational institutions.
To use our BECE aggregate score calculator, start by entering the grades from your core subjects, followed by the elective and optional Subjects. Leave a subject empty if you did not sit for the exam. Once done, click “Calculate Aggregate” to compute your score and “Clear” to start afresh.
What is the BECE aggregate score?
The BECE aggregate score is a cumulative result determining a student’s overall performance. It is derived from the grades obtained in the subjects taken during the examination. Each subject is graded on a scale from 1 to 9, with 1 being the highest score and 9 being the lowest.
How is the BECE aggregate score calculated?
Below is a step-by-step guide to calculate your BECE aggregate score. It’s also how our aggregate score calculator works:
- Identify core subjects: The core subjects for the Basic Education Certificate Examination are English Language, Mathematics, Integrated Science, and Social Studies.
- Select the best two electives: Among the elective and optional subjects written, select the two you performed the best.
- Assign grade points: Each subject grade corresponds to a single point:
- 90-100 = Grade 1: 1 point
- 80-89 = Grade 2: 2 points
- 70-79 = Grade 3: 3 points
- 60-69 = Grade 4: 4 points
- 55-59 = Grade 5: 5 points
- 50-54 = Grade 6: 6 points
- 40-49 = Grade 7: 7 points
- 35-39 = Grade 8: 8 points
- 0-34 = Grade 9: 9 points
- Sum the points: Add the points from the six best subjects (core subjects and the best two electives) to get your total BECE aggregate score.
Why is the BECE aggregate score important?
The BECE aggregate score is very important because it determines your senior high or vocational school placement. The better your score, the more likely you are to get into a good school.
Your aggregate also summarises how well you performed in your exams. Getting a high aggregate score means you understand what was taught and can apply the knowledge.
