Ghana Education Service (GES) has released the new academic calendar for the 2024/2025 year.
It highlights the start and end dates for each school term and other important dates to help you stay informed about when school is in session and when breaks are coming up.
The calendar should help students better organise their time, parents prepare for the year ahead, and teachers plan lessons and exams more efficiently.

FAQs
What month does school start in Ghana?
The academic begins in September for basic schools and October for secondary schools. Universities and other tertiary institutions, however, start their academic year in August or September.
Which date will SHS 1 students go to school in 2024?
SHS 1 students in both transitional and single-track schools in Ghana will resume school on 30th October 2024, after the release of the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) results.
What are transitional and single-track schools?
In Ghana, single-track schools operate on a system where all students attend school at the same time, following a standard academic calendar with traditional breaks.
In contrast, transitional (double-track) schools divide students into two groups. Each group attends school at different times to manage enrollment and maximise resources.
GES and MoE have announced plans to transition 70% of the double-track schools back to the single-track system as infrastructure improvements are made to accommodate all Senior High School students.
